LIVING CONDITIONS

Is housing provided, or will an allowance be paid to cover the complete cost of housing? If not, how much will you be expected to pay?

Will you have to live in a compound?

Is the incidence of crime high?

Is the country politically stable?

What is the incidence of terrorism or extreme violence against foreign residents?

FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS

Are there commissary benefits (can you shop duty-free at a local embassy, irrespective of your nationality)?

What is the cost of living like?

How much local income tax will you be expected to pay?

Will you have enough to be able to live, or will it be a struggle?

Can you get your money out of the country easily?

Is there an adequate currency fluctuation program in case of devaluation of the local currency against your home currency?

MEDICAL

Is there good medical and dental insurance that pays out 100%, or if it doesn't cover you for 100% of the cost of treatment, what percentage will you be liable for?

What currency will it pay out in and will it be paid by check or by wire (telegraphic transfer)?

Will existing conditions (ailments) be accepted?

What dread diseases does the country have and what is the incidence? (hepatitis, malaria, sleeping sickness, AIDS, bilharzia, dengue fever, yellow fever, leprosy, etc.).

Does the school's medical insurance cover you fully for dread diseases like cancer, leukaemia or any other life-threatening disease?

Is there any permanent disability insurance and, if so, with which insurer is it placed with and what are its conditions?

AIR TICKET ARRANGEMENTS

What are the vacation arrangements for flights like? Once every three/two years/every year/twice a year, and what sort of ticket will you get, Economy class year ticket, economy class APEX, group/charter?

Will you be allowed to be allowed to fly home at the school's expense if a member of your immediate family becomes dangerously ill? Will you be expected to pay for the ticket if the school bought your ticket for you to visit a dangerously ill family member and your family member subsequently recovered from that illness? Could you afford to pay for an air-ticket in those circumstances?

Is it 100% return ticket every year, or is it only 50%? If it's 50%, is it 50% of the return ticket or is it a one-way ticket?

Can you not take leave but have the cost of the ticket in cash for you to spend as you please? If so, will that payment be subject to local tax?

Will you be able to use your entitlement to an air-ticket to places other than your home of record during vacations?

Will your children be entitled to vacation air-tickets?

SCHOOL INFORMATION

How long will your hirer be staying at the school?

Will you be left alone to get on with your job, or constantly harrassed whilst having to jump through needless hoops?

Is the school financially healthy, so that programs do not suffer through lack of funds?
