School Background: Katoh Schools & College is a large private Japanese school which includes a preschool, elementary school, two junior / senior high schools, and a small college in rural Japan on the Pacific Coast. Total enrollment is approximately 4,000 students. The school was the first school in Japan to introduce an English immersion program for Japanese students. Immersion teachers teach the regular school curriculum (math, science, social studies, etc.) through the medium of English to Japanese children. Katoh Schools are accredited Japanese national schools and follow the Japanese national curriculum. Gyoshu Junior & Senior High School (one of our secondary schools) is the first school in Japan to also be authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) for its Middle Years Program. Gyoshu High School will begin implementation of the International Baccalaureate Diploma program during the 2002 - 2003 school year. The school is located in Numazu city, Shizuoka prefecture, about one hour south of Tokyo on the Shinkansen. Numazu is situated on the Pacific coast surrounded by Mt Fuji, Hakone National Park and Izu peninsula.
