Education for a World of Difference
The positions on this list will be vacant from January 2004 and July 2004 or sooner. Woodstock’s school year has two semesters and runs from July to June, with a long holiday from the first week of December until the last week of January.
We are seeking to recruit staff candidates with the following characteristics:
Woodstock offers a College preparatory program that is academically demanding to a multi-cultural group of students aged 3-19 years. We therefore seek experienced teachers and residence staff who have the ability to respond effectively to the needs of our students in a boarding situation. Preferably, applicants will have worked overseas or in a cross-cultural setting. They will be able to contribute effectively as part of an international team with approximately half-Indian national colleagues and half-foreign national, from USA, UK, Korea, Australia and New Zealand. Applicants will be suitably qualified for the post applied for, at least first degree level, and appropriate professional qualifications, including post-graduate teacher qualifications, teacher certification, or other applicable degree.
Our normal contract is for a three- or four-year initial commitment, although we do welcome volunteer staff for one-year terms (for teaching or residence positions) or one semester (for support positions). Staff are employed on direct hire or are seconded by a partner organization. We encourage singles or family applications, where both members of the couple are able to apply for vacant positions. We also welcome applications from people, who have taken early retirement, are on sabbatical, or who are taking a ‘gap’ year.
As a Christian international school, we especially welcome applications from people with a Christian commitment. All applicants are expected to state their willingness to support the statements of philosophy and purpose expressed in the School’s Mission Statement and to be comfortable with working in a largely Christian environment.
Qualities of resilience, humor, flexibility, tolerance, determination and cultural sensitivity are amongst those that we are actively seeking in our recruitment process. Because of Woodstock’s physical location, applicants will need to be physically fit and mobile, in good health, and aware of the personal and climatic implications of life at 7000 feet in the Indian Himalayas.
The 280-acre campus is located in a protected forest that lies on the outskirts of Mussoorie, a hill station in Uttarancahal. Although modern conveniences are increasingly available, the lifestyle is still rustic compared with that in a more urban area, and applicants should take these factors into consideration.
Candidates who wish to learn more about the school can find a wide range of material on our website on www.woodstock.ac.in
We do not send out additional material about openings without first having considered an applicant’s resume or curriculum vitae, which can be emailed or posted to Woodstock for the attention of the Human Resource Manager on email@example.com We will review your resume and covering letter and, if we wish to pursue your application, will send out a pack of material about Woodstock and an application form.
We generally like to see the following information on a c.v. or resume in order to consider a candidate’s suitability for a post at Woodstock:
1) Name; postal address; phone; fax; email
2) Passport country and number; date of birth
3) Marital status; names and ages of dependent children
4) Religious affiliation; church membership
5) Educational history and qualifications (From High/Secondary school graduation and including first and subsequent degrees or diplomas; please give awarding institutions and dates.)
6) Professional qualifications (such as post-graduate training, diplomas, certificates; give awarding institutions and dates of award)
7) Employment History (Include beginning and ending dates for each job, job title and employer. For each job related to your present application, please give brief summary of job requirements and responsibilities.)
8) Other skills and interests (List any that are relevant to your current application; include language and level of computer competency.)
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Details of compensation will be provided in the application pack, but applicants should be aware that Woodstock pays its entire staff in India Rupees and does not have any arrangements to pay salary in the home country of overseas nationals. The level of salary and benefits is competitive within India.
In general, this means that staff coming to work at Woodstock from overseas will have strong intrinsic motivation for seeking employment in our school.
